Why Is Our Cerium Oxide Better?

Suspension-treated for high water solubility, ensuring faster results with less product

FAQs

What is Cerium Oxide?

Cerium oxide is a rare earth mineral used as a high-performance polishing compound for glass, gemstones, and crystals. It chemically reacts with glass at a microscopic level to remove imperfections and restore clarity.

Why Is Our Cerium Oxide Better?

Our cerium oxide is suspension-treated for high water solubility, ensuring a smooth and even application. It is highly refined, requiring only a small amount to achieve a flawless finish. Compared to standard cerium oxide, our formula delivers faster results, better coverage, and superior clarity, making it a top choice for professionals and DIY users alike.

What’s the Difference Between Fine-Grade and High-Grade Cerium Oxide?

Fine-grade cerium oxide (2.5 microns, TREO 95%) is designed for optical precision and delicate polishing. High-grade cerium oxide (3.5 microns, TREO 85%) has a stronger cutting action, making it ideal for general glass restoration and surface defect removal.

Can Cerium Oxide Damage My Glass?

No, cerium oxide is a safe and non-abrasive polishing compound when used correctly. It removes surface imperfections without scratching the glass. Always use it with a felt polishing pad and follow the recommended polishing technique.

What Types of Glass Can I Polish with Cerium Oxide?

Cerium oxide can be used on all glass types, including automotive glass, mirrors, windows, shower screens, aquariums, and even optical lenses. It is also effective on gemstones, crystals, and certain ceramics.

Can I Use Cerium Oxide by Hand?

Yes, cerium oxide can be applied by hand for cleaning and restoring clarity. However, for best results in scratch removal and full polishing, it is recommended to use a rotary tool or drill with a felt polishing pad.

Does Cerium Oxide Remove Deep Scratches?

Cerium oxide is best suited for fine scratches and surface imperfections that do not catch on a fingernail. For deeper scratches, a multi-stage abrasive process or a glass scratch removal kit may be required.

How Do I Use Cerium Oxide for Polishing?

Mix cerium oxide powder with water to create a smooth paste—not too thick or too runny. Apply a small amount to a felt polishing pad and work in circular motions. For best results, use a rotary device at 1500–2000 RPM, while maintaining a glass surface temperature of 30–50°C (86–122°F). Avoid overheating the glass during polishing.

Is Cerium Oxide Safe to Use?

Yes, cerium oxide is a non-toxic, zinc-free formula with no harmful fumes, it is safe for home, workshop, and professional use. However, we recommend using gloves and a dust mask when working with fine powders.

How Much Cerium Oxide Do I Need?

The amount needed depends on your project:

  • 50g (1.76 oz) → Polishes up to 4m², enough for at least 2 windshields
  • 100g (3.52 oz) → Ideal for multiple surfaces, aquariums, or repeated use
  • 250g (8.8 oz) → Suitable for larger restoration projects
  • 1kg (2.2 lbs) → Best for bulk use, workshops, or industrial applications
  • 5kg (11 lbs)Ideal for high-volume users, large-scale restoration projects, or professional glass repair businesses
